Councilor at-Large Candidate Forum - Oct. 25th @ 6:00pm, Worc. Youth Center

The Worcester NAACP and our Sponsors are hosting TWO Councilor at-Large candidate forums at the Worcester Youth Center in October. Our goals is to encourage all eligible voters to exercise their voice, their power, and their right to vote!

Candidates will be asked questions posed by our non-profit sponsors that deal with issues of diversity/inclusion, and labor. Members of the Worcester Youth Center will help facilitate both forums. Please encourage everyone you know to come out and learn directly from the candidates, why they are running, and how they plan to make Worcester a great place to live for all residents, and all communities!

The Candidate Forums will held at the Worcester Youth Center, 326 Chandler Street, on Wednesdays, October 18th and October 25th @ 6:00pm.

Elected officials know who votes. If your community is turning out well below other neighborhoods, elected officials will pay less attention, make fewer appearances and fewer appeals to your neighborhoods. Who votes has a powerful impact on public policy and government. Your constituents have policy and political concerns – whether the direction of an issue or priorities of public budgets – that won’t be heard if they don’t vote.

People who vote are associated with a host of positive civic, health and social factors. Among the most studied are that voters are known to be more engaged in other activities like volunteering or contacting their election official. They are more informed about local affairs and a contributor to their neighborhood’s “social capital.” Voters live in communities where there is more trust and people have contact with their neighbors. They are more concerned about their communities and peers and have a greater sense of their ability to impact the world around them.
